There are a total of 10 sites at this location. The location is suitable for Remote/backpack camping.

This lovely walk-in campground is a stone’s throw from Shelley Caves and Little Shelley Beach, where you can swim, fish and explore. It’s a perfect spot for adventurous walkers looking for a remote nature getaway as it’s a 7km hike north of Lake Arragan, or a 6km walk south of Angourie along Yuraygir coastal walk.

Spring is a particularly wonderful time to camp here, as the surrounding woods come alive with an array of blooming coastal wildflowers, including Christmas bells, flannel flowers and native orchids in purple, red, yellow and even black.

There’s also plenty of wildlife to see here, from emus and long-nosed bandicoots to sugar gliders, owls, eastern grey kangaroos and red-necked as well as swamp wallabies.

SITE ACCESS
Unsealed road/trail – no motor vehicle access
Shelley Head campground is within Yuraygir National Park. To get there via Lake Arragan campground: Take Pacific Highway north from Grafton for about 35km. Continue for about 18km and then follow signs for Lake Arragan or Red Cliff campgrounds. Shelley Head campground is a 7km walk north from Lake Arragan.

Please note: GPS Co-Ordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you as close to the camp site as possible, or to the National Park entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

Annual pass or daily vehicle entry fee of $7 also required.

Sites are not marked. Water is not available at this campground, so you’ll need to bring your own supply for drinking and cooking.
This is a remote campground, so please make sure you arrive well-prepared.
Campfires are not permitted – fuel stove only area.
Rubbish bins are not available – please take rubbish with you when leaving.
Strong rips and currents may be present at this beach – take care in the water and please supervise children at all times.
Check the weather before you set out as the road to this campground can become boggy when it rains.
No domestic animals allowed.
This campground is in a remote location, so please ensure you have enough provisions and are well-prepared for wet weather conditions.
