Hillside Farm is a 200-acre working horse farm, only 6km out of the centre of Tamworth. Your hosts Dawn and Steve will make you feel more than welcome and love campers stopping over.

The camping area is set up in a paddock beside the main barn and surrounded by horse paddocks. The site is mostly level but a few ramps will soon get you that way if needed. Normally green and lush, it can get a little dry over the winter months. The facilities are basic but there is access to the fridge, tea, and coffee in the adjoining barn. For something different, you can try the outdoor shower under the stars. There is also some limited power available at an extra cost.

As a working farm, there are many horses to interact with and Dawn is happy to let you tag along at feeding time. You are permitted to bring pets, but they must be strictly on a lead at all times due to the other animals on the farm. There is also a dog run available if you want to leave your dog and go into town. Being a horse farm, they also cater for looking after your horses, so if you need somewhere to camp with your horses, just ring and ask.

Dawn also offers a few extra services, including Dawn’s Taxi Service, where for a small fee she can drive you into town, which is very handy around Country Music Time. She also offers short-term horse agistment.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Fees are $10 per adult
$5 per child (14 & under)
Power $5 extra per night
Bookings are not essential but probably a courtesy call ahead of time would be appreciated to ensure someone is there to greet you.

HOW TO GET THERE
The best and easiest access is off the New England Highway, also known as the Oxley Highway or at times Armidale Road. From there turn into Nundle Road and Hillside is 2.4km on your left. You can also approach from Nundle but the road can be rough at times.

SITE ACCESS
The property is clearly sign marked with the farm name and also “Sunrise Cutting Horses” The gate is usually always open. When you arrive head to the left just after the main gate.  The camping area is around the steel barn. If you are not sure where to park, just wait for Dawn to give you some guidance.

RULES
No smoking (unless you are in your own car) lots of dry grass around.
Dogs have to be on the lead at all times, please.
Please let someone know if you are going for a bush walk so you are not disturbed by livestock.
No access to farm machinery or farm sheds.
Keep away from the electric fences, unless you want to be zapped.

THINGS TO DO
There is plenty to see and do on the farm itself with some great walks, especially to the top of the main hill where you can see forever, well at least look over the whole township of Tamworth and halfway to Nundle.

Tamworth is a large regional city with every shop and service imaginable. It is also home to The Tamworth Country Music Festival the largest in the country is held in January each year.

There is also the Australian Equine Livestock Event Centre (AELEC) which is the largest of its kind in Australia with equine events held most weekends and host the Australian and NCHA Cutting Futurity, as well as the Landmark Campdraft and Equine Sales.

Perfect place to stay just out of Tamworth. Dawn was amazing and took time out with the kids to let them feed the horses. Make sure you walk to top of hills. Views are amazing.
