Set on a 160 acre property at Gunalda, north of Gympie, Hangar O is a campground with a touch of luxury thrown in that opened in 2018. The property’s natural features include a creek and spring-fed billabong, and a variety of wildlife call the area home.

If you’re after a luxury camping experience, Hangar O has a number of luxe glamping tents on offer that are suitable for couples and families. They include solar power, open-air hot shower and fire pit. Luxe tents have a queen bed and ceiling fan, and bedding and towels are included. Family luxe tents also have an extra tent that can sleep up to three, with two single beds plus a small pull-out bed. There are also premium glamping packages available which include a bottle of wine, wood and a 60 minute microlight flight.

The property has a 25 metre lap pool, toddler pool and a short airstrip. For some extra pampering, there is also a massage pavilion where you can treat yourself to a 60 or 90 minute Ka Huna massage. And if you need a caffeine hit first thing in the morning, just visit the onsite coffee truck.

For basic supplies, there’s a general store and a bakery in Gunalda, as well as a pub. For other needs, Gympie is about 25 km away and is fully serviced.

HOW TO GET THERE
Hangar O is located on the Bruce Highway 1 km south of the United service station in Gunalda. Look out for the red and white flags.

If you’ve had enough of relaxing at Hangar O and would like to head off for a day trip, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area.
National parks and state forests
There are a number of national parks and state forests to explore in the Gunalda region. You can take a walk through rainforest and areas of bunya and hoop pines, view wildflowers, or maybe see a platypus or two.

Coastal areas
Hangar O is within easy reach of coastal regions. Feed wild dolphins at Tin Can Bay, see the coloured sands at Rainbow Beach, go beach four-wheel driving, or take a tour of Fraser Island.

Gympie Music Muster
This festival is held over four days each August at Amamoor Creek Forest. It features a wide variety of music acts as well as a talent search, workshops, bush poets’ breakfast and a kids’ program.

Festivals
In addition to the music muster, there are numerous other festivals held in Gympie throughout the year catering to a range of interests. Choose from a bull and bronc rodeo, garden expo, steam festival, faerie festival, arms and collectables fair, and much more.

Gympie Growers Market
Held every Wednesday morning, this market isn’t just about fresh produce. You’ll also find handmade products such as skincare, preserves, smallgoods and more.

Museums and galleries
Gympie originally developed as a gold mining town and the mining and historical museum commemorates the town’s beginnings. There is also a woodworks museum celebrating the area’s forestry industry. Gympie Regional Gallery hosts a variety of exhibitions and workshops featuring arts and crafts.

Mary Valley Rattler
Step back in time with a ride on the Mary Valley Rattler. A variety of restored locomotives and carriages take passengers between Gympie and Amamoor.
