Fairhaven Camping Area is a 5km walk from the ferry terminal at Tankerton on French Island. It is accessible by Boat Only, and therefore only for Tent based camping. The site is located on the western shoreline with easy access to a sandy beach and with mudflats exposed at low tide. The camping area provides an ideal base from which you can access the many walking tracks and explore the park. Be aware of the tides when swimming, large mudflats are exposed at low tide.

French Island National Park is a true paradise. Accessible only by passenger ferry, French Island is a haven of peace and serenity, home to a diverse range of wildlife and containing environments ranging from mangrove saltmarsh areas to open woodlands.

SITE ACCESS
Access French Island is by boat only. The campsite is a 5km walk from the ferry terminal location. Ferry directions: Take the passenger ferry from Stony Point across to French Island. For bookings ring the 24-hour Information line on (03) 9585 5730. The trip takes 10-12 minutes and delivers you to Tankerton Jetty on French Island. Check ferry timetables and weather conditions – ferry services can be cancelled at very short notice.

Walking from ferry:
Continue from the jetty carpark along the gravel road. Turn left at the bridge and either take the walking track to the left of the road (5km), or follow Coast Road to the campground (4.2km).
The walking track follows the coast to Fairhaven Campground through ti-tree, heathland, heathy woodland, coastal dunes and along the beach.

Please note: GPS Co-Ordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the National Park entrance or as close to the camp site as possible. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Fees no longer apply to basic category campgrounds. For all stays up until 30 June 2015, you will still need to book a campsite, but no fees will be charged. After 1 July 2015, no bookings will be taken for campgrounds where fees do not apply. Camping will be first in, first-served.
A 100% discount will apply to the Basic campsite fees when proceed with your booking.

FACILITIES
Basic toilet facilities are provided. Open fires are not permitted at any time. Please bring a portable gas stove for cooking. Water supply cannot be guaranteed and visitors should be self-sufficient. Camping on the beach is prohibited. Mosquito repellent is essential. Dogs, motorbikes, fires and firearms are prohibited in the park

THINGS TO DO
Explore the park at leisure by bus, bike or on foot, using the network of public roads and management tracks. There are whole day, half day and shorter walks and rides starting at Tankerton Foreshore Reserve

RULES
All the plants and animals in the park are protected. Leave the park as you find it.
Bins are not provided. Please take your rubbish with you.
Light fires only in the fireplaces provided. Learn more about campfire safety.
Firearms are only permitted in the park according to hunting regulations. Please refer to the hunting page.
Keep to designated tracks.
Dredging and gold fossicking are not permitted.
Vehicles and motorbikes may be used only on roads open to public vehicles. All vehicles must be registered and drivers licensed.
