Quiet bush style campground.
Birdwood Downs Station offers bush-style campgrounds for tents, campervans, and camper trailers, and a limited number of caravans on 2500 ha of pastoral land located on the Gibb River Road in the West Kimberley.
Savannah huts are also available to enjoy the luxury of a room in the beautiful gardens around the homestead. A well-equipped camp kitchen is available. For those interested in our approach to sustainable ecology we have ecotours and horseback trail rides through our paddocks.
Since 1978 we have pioneered new ecological methods of improving degraded lands using stock management, weed control, and planting improved grasses. Now the beautiful paddocks with their groves of native trees, spectacular boabs, and eucalyptus, serve as a model for sustainable management of the tropical savannah and support our horses and cattle herd.
The Kimberley School of Horsemanship offers training for all ages in horse care, horse training, and riding. Facilities include a round yard, rodeo arena, and special paddocks for care and foaling. Horse rides are available for all levels of experience. The School includes a breeding program for Quarab horses.
HOW TO GET THERE
Birdwood Downs Station is located on Gibb River Road, approximately 20km east of Derby. Derby-Gibb River Road is 3km from the centre of Derby, follow for 11.2km and turn left. There is a blue sign at the front entrance that says, Birdwood Downs.
SITE ACCESS
Head down the road for 700 metres turn right at the buildings and you will see a shed and office. The office will be manned. You will need to open and close the gate behind you.
FEES & BOOKINGS
You are welcome to arrive without a booking when you are camping.
Fee is $35/couple per night.

Birdwood Downs Station is a good base camp for Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek, and other local attractions.
Guests will love the Ecological tours, self-guided walks, and horseback riding.
